The Mauli Ola Foundation, helmed by Laguna Beach-based Hans Hagen, benefits children living with Cystic Fibrosis by connecting them with experienced surfers who coach them in the sport, allowing them to safely and healthy connect with nature and move their bodies. Hans cites hypertonic saline in the ocean as a natural treatment for people with Cystic Fibrosis. For 15 years, FlexFit has been a steadfast sponsor of the Mauli Ola Foundation, providing a much needed respite to patients with levity and joy. Through physical activity, social connection, and environmental education, the Mauli Ola foundation raises its participants and volunteers to be the leading generation in empathy and reversing the effects of climate change.

What are your dreams for the future? For yourself, and for your friends?
// When I grow up, I want to be a doctor, or go into the medical field in some way. My mom is a doctor, so it’s been really inspiring to me, and also really helpful for my condition. As for the world, I want to see kindness.
How do you think we can make the world a better place? What changes would you like to see in the world to make it a better place?
// Spread happiness.
How do you take care of your environment? What are some things you’d suggest to keep the environment healthy for the next generation?
// I try to pick up any trash I see. I think that if everyone could recycle and throw away less trash we would see a huge impact, definitely.

What are your dreams for the future? For yourself, and for your friends?
// The career path I’m looking toward is computer science, building websites, maybe do- ing backend stuff like that, coding. I want a way to come together. I feel like there’s a lot of division im seeing, especially now that I’m a senior, im taking government, and seeing how its even more divided than usual. The history of it goes further back than you think. I want us to find common ground.
How do you think we can make the world a better place? What changes would you like to see in the world to make it a better place?
// Smiling and finding joy in life. Even if there doesn’t seem like there’s joy, there’s always joy. You just have to find a different perspective.
How do you take care of your environment? What are some things you’d suggest to keep the environment healthy for the next generation?
// My grandpa lives in Hayward, and is very involved in their committee, where the slogan is “Keep Hayward Clean”. I learned by his example, just pick up trash, like c’mon, it’s easy. It’s simple, you just get it done. Do your part.
