Trudon recently held a cocktail to celebrate the latest addition to their Alabaster collection. The scent Vesta serves as a great continuation of the storied French heritage brand that has existed since 1643. The handmade alabaster vessel is a thoughtful detail of luxuriant artisan craftsmanship fit for the court of Louis XIV as it is for any modern millennial aristocrat of the digital world. With a scent story hinting of fruity notes into rose and jasmine and further into the depths of mandarin and moss, it is certainly a flirtatious and sensual massage to the senses. To celebrate this scent, we went to the source speaking with Trudon’s creative director Julien Pruvost.
There is a lost thoughtfulness behind the artisanally crafted Les Albâtres collection, from scent to the sublime vessel it comes in, what was the inspiration behind this scent and design.
The inspiration came from ancient Greek and Egyptian antiques. Back then, alabaster was often used to collect remains for ceremonial purposes as well as store cosmetics. Trudon Alabaster vessels were designed to blend in and almost be mistaken as an actual antique piece, yet minimalist and modern at the same time.
What was the background behind the alabaster vessel and lid, was there a way which the scent reacts to being in the stone.
The vessel is a copy – in alabaster – of the classic Trudon vessel and the lid was designed to finish the piece. It both protects the wax and easily allows repurposing.
How do you think a brand like Cire Trudon has been able to last through out the centuries whilst still maintaining the hand crafted elegance and production that has passed through time.
The obvious answer is through rebranding, but the lesser-known answer concerns the constant reengineering of each and every part of our products. For example, a year ago, we completed the reformulation of our wax base, which took close to 2000 hours of lab testing and thorough sourcing of European, natural, and organic ingredients. Wherever you decide to look when looking into a Trudon product, you will discover tremendous care, thoughtfulness, and rigor.
Who is the modern client for Trudon and what is it about the scent and brand that allures and keeps them coming back.
The Trudon customer is any discerning person who has a passion for products that are classic, authentic, timeless and conceived with the utmost rigor. Some of our scents have reached icon status and please certain people to the point where they come back to the same scent over and over. Some of our scents have become signature to certain places, the same way furniture designs are. The Connaught Hotel in London for example only burns Trudon Solis Rex candles.
What are some of the ways which you have engaged with modern production and how do you think the modern customer aligns with the brand and differs.
Trudon products are standardized artisanal products, meaning one has the guarantee of quality and the feeling of possessing an item that is unique. This is particularly true for the Alabaster collection. We all aspire to impeccable personal service.
