In the ever-evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, few artists manage to navigate as many roles as successfully as Tayla Parx. From her humble beginnings in Texas to her dynamic career in Los Angeles and around the world, Tayla has continually redefined what it means to be a multifaceted artist. Having known her personally for over a decade, I can say that her latest project, “Many Moons, Many Suns”, is not just another milestone in her career; it is a profound exploration of identity, creativity, and the interplay between science and magic. Join us as we discuss the inspiration behind her new album and the legacy, she aims to build in this, her latest era.
Tayla Parx’s introduction to the entertainment world was a blend of serendipity and determination. Originally from Texas, her initial foray into the arts began with singing—a form of expression she was passionate about from a young age. “Singing was my gateway to exploring new forms of expression,” she recalls. “I was 11 years old when I started to follow my gut, leading me to LA, where I began to immerse myself in singing and songwriting.” Under the mentorship of the legendary Debbie Allen, her talents blossomed, laying the foundation for a career that would span multiple mediums and defy expectations. Now a multifaceted artist in Los Angeles, Tayla’s path has been defined by a relentless pursuit of creativity and self-expression. As a singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, her career is a living journal, with each project being a reflection of transformative experiences and innovative ideas.
“I think creatives are the best businesspeople. My favorite lawyers, CEOs, etc., are creatives at heart—creative with how they put deals together, solve problems, and approach life.”
Balancing music, acting, and songwriting is a complex feat, yet Tayla manages it with a unique approach to inspiration. “For me, it’s about integrating different creative pursuits seamlessly,” she explains. “Each outlet informs the other, creating a cohesive artistic expression.” This synergy is evident in her songwriting for other artists, where she channels different perspectives while maintaining her authentic voice in her solo projects. “I like to build things—from chicken coops to businesses—it’s a lot of fun coming up with identities,” she says with a smile.
Tayla’s creativity and songwriting prowess have seen her build an extensive body of work with some of Hollywood’s most prominent artists, including Troye Sivan, Janelle Monáe, Anderson .Paak, Kali Uchis, and countless others. She made history as the first female songwriter since 2014 to have three simultaneous top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, and she has received two GRAMMY® nominations to date. “I’m never sad to give a song away. Writing for others allows me to step into their stories, which is just as rewarding as telling my own.”
When asked about some of the standout moments in her career, Tayla recounts, “Working with artists like Anderson .Paak and Domi & JD Beck was a chance to be fearless and bold in my creative voice and try things I may not have otherwise considered.” Touring internationally with Paak in 2019 marked a bold transition from pop/ mainstream to more avant-garde expressions for Tayla. Reflecting on the ever-changing landscape of the entertainment industry, she notes, “It’s a moving target. Every couple of years, the industry evolves, and so does my perspective.” One such milestone was her venture into country music, a genre that challenged her to redefine her artistic boundaries. “It pushed me to explore new narratives, looks, and sounds, which was incredibly enriching.”
