DTLA is no stranger to creative disruption, but it’s about to get a fresh jolt with the grand opening of Slip Galerie—an artist-run space with a rebellious streak. Helmed by artist and curator David-Simon Dayan, Slip debuts with a duo exhibition, “Fractures: Doubt and Desire,” featuring works by O. Kaya Dayan and Booboo Stewart. It all goes down on March 21, 2025, and if the name is any indication, expect a show that breaks open the cracks between longing and hesitation, introspection and action.

Slip Galerie’s ethos is all about pushing boundaries, and the works on display in Fractures do just that. Booboo Stewart, known for his intricate ballpoint pen drawings and multimedia sculptures, dives deep into the human psyche. His pieces distort anatomy, layering emotions like sedimentary rock formations—one glance isn’t enough. You’ve got to sink in, let the tension tug at you.
Meanwhile, O. Kaya Dayan brings a dreamlike playfulness to the existential see-saw. Drawing from their experiences with Tourette’s syndrome and synesthesia, Kaya’s work transforms obsessive thoughts into vivid, immersive portals of introspection. It’s the kind of art that doesn’t just sit pretty on a gallery wall—it pulls you in, like a whisper you can’t quite shake.

Slip Galerie itself is more than just a new spot to stare at art—it’s a conversation in motion, a space where risk-taking is not just welcomed but required. Dayan’s vision for the gallery is clear: art should challenge, disrupt, and—above all—make you feel something visceral.
And that’s exactly what Fractures: Doubt and Desire promises. It’s an exhibition that doesn’t just ask, What holds us back? but demands we face it. Are we trapped by fear or propelled by longing? Are we stuck, or just waiting to leap?
