PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE opens its newest store in the vibrant Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan. The store, located at the corner of Elizabeth Street and Kenmare Street, occupies the ground floor of architect Tadao Ando’s first building in New York City and his inaugural residential project outside Asia. This quintessential downtown location, celebrated for its boutiques, galleries, and bustling energy, provides the perfect setting for the brand’s innovative and modern aesthetic.
Designed by the renowned Japanese design firm MOMENT, the store spans 2,224 square feet of retail space and boasts an impressive 60 feet of frontage along Kenmare Street. The design concept highlights a harmonious blend of sharp industrial elements and sleek modernity, reflecting the brand’s signature aesthetic.
To celebrate the opening, the store will feature an exclusive new collection titled SOIL & LEAF. This series of pleated tops, skirts, and dresses embodies the natural inspiration and timeless elegance synonymous with PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE. Available only at this location, the collection invites customers to experience the unique joy and lightness that define the brand.
PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE debuted its first collection for the Spring/Summer 1994 season as an independent brand, building on pleating innovations showcased in 1988 within the women’s collection. Renowned for its original yarn-based fabrics, the brand merges cutting-edge garment pleating technology with everyday utility. Each piece is first sewn and then pleated, resulting in lightweight, versatile, and machine-washable garments designed to adapt seamlessly to the wearer’s body and movement. Offering a unique silhouette for every individual, PLEATS PLEASE embodies simplicity, functionality, and creativity. These designs reflect ISSEY MIYAKE’s vision of fusing innovation with joy, bringing freedom and ease to modern life.
