For AW23 Spencer Phipps launched an LA centric collection for PHIPPS celebrating the expanse of the west. A redefining moment to present a sense of ”an iconic American fashion brand.” The excitement of the embrace of the Cali west has come to shine through in the collections vision of denim, wool, and deadstock fabrics.
The spirit of classic Americana tropes were in view with the Hollywood celebration of the counterculture as Avedon images and the works of such auteurs as Kenneth Anger, David Lynch, William Albert Allard, Richard Prince, and others were referenced. Creating a tapestry that spoke to the themes of heroic cinematic storytelling.
Along with the foundational garments and unisex denim, the focus on the brands up cycling and vintage collection pulled together a vision that was full of wear and thoughtful romance of the bucolic escapism of the gunslinging west, of beer drinking of the sense of honky tonk deconstructed with the aid of Michel Gaubert’s Yves Tumor laden soundtrack. All with a heavy dose of luxuriant fabrics and exciting prints.
This American artisan led journey has brought one the addition of a range of undergarments and the debut of womenswear in addition to PHIPPS’ ongoing woolwich collaboration which had found and intersection at heritage and innovation.
