The ego taken out of a composition is often less than, but highly magnified is the humanity as reflected in Jason Renaud’s photographic work for his show and book OPACIFIER. Contemplative waifs glow in a ghostly fashion as if pensive memento mori of the zoomer generation, ever enigmatic figures looming, detached of brand or affiliation. It’s this humanity which the photographer captures and distills so well. Presentation of glorious it girls who have taken on the tried torch of Hollywood’s intelligentsia Zoë-Bleu Arquette and Sophie Thatcher appear as digital era Ophelia along with the romanticized allure of Miguel and Labrinth.
Renaud’s work which spans three years and brings together a range on creatives have the same shared emotions whilst traversing the backstages and in between moments from New York, Los Angeles, and Paris. His subject’s diverse backgrounds of creative occupations from music and art to fashion and film presents a curated selection of muses. The photographer has carved out a niche which in itself, references an icon era of pre-social media dialogue, the backstage photographer capturing unbridled gusto which evokes the spirit of Davide Sorrenti. Jason has been integral in the imagery of brands like Ann Demeulemeester as well as magazines like Reserved (for which he shot the iconic Gia Woods), Purple Magazine, Wonderland, Fräulein, Collectible Dry, Grailed and Numero Berlin.
