In the dynamic world of contemporary art, few artists command attention like George Rouy. His latest exhibition, ‘The Bleed, Part II,’ at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles, has captivated audiences with its ethereal distortions of the human form. To mark its opening and the occasion of Frieze LA, Rouy has partnered with internationally renowned choreographer Sharon Eyal for the US premiere of ‘BODYSUIT,’ a groundbreaking live performance that blurs the boundaries between painting, movement, and sound.
Commissioned by Hannah Barry Gallery and co-produced with Hauser & Wirth, ‘BODYSUIT’ is Rouy and Eyal’s first collaborative creation, bringing together a visionary synthesis of contemporary dance, visual art, and electronic music. This performance is a total sensory immersion, featuring five dancers moving within an environment designed for heightened emotional and physical engagement.

The performance unfolds on a mirrored dance floor, reflecting both the performers and audience, furthering Rouy’s themes of distortion and transformation. Dynamic lighting systems amplify the mood, oscillating between austerity and crisis, while costumes designed by British fashion house 16Arlington, in collaboration with Rouy, embody the tension between constraint and fluidity.
Rouy also contributes to the auditory experience, composing a new electronic soundscape that intertwines with Eyal’s signature punctuated choreography. This interplay of sound and movement crafts a narrative that oscillates between precision and abandonment, structure and chaos—challenging audiences to confront the delicate balance between control and surrender.
