Sidling up to the makeover machine, they enter… whirrr, click, click, click, whoosh… and they stride out, changed. Standing taller, they are buffed, polished and shimmering. Once used and worn, they are spanking new. The metamorphosis depicted on the Fall Winter 2024 runway is modeled by sets of twins, wearing dual epitomes of Dsquared2 looks that explore all the signature style codes of the brand as they transform from day to night.
Striking a distinct divide between raw and refined, the collection plays with fabrics, treatments and silhouettes.
Raw is personified by the rugged styles Dsquared2 has made their own: ultra detailed denim effects featuring jeans splattered in mud and snow, patched and weathered, check shirts attached already to the waist. Destroyed sweatshirts with rips and chains and consumed cotton tanks. Distressed leather and furry outerwear with fringes are thrown on top of fair isle knits, the shapes a mash-up of oversized and slouchy, and cropped and body-skimming.
Refined informs evening wear. Tailoring rules here, sharp and narrow with plunging collars and swinging shiny metal jewelry with colored stones. Luxury fabrications of glossy pony, maxi sequins, lustrous python-print leather and velvet exude a sultry sparkle.
Each look is presented as if it undergoes a change yet retains an element of its origin.
A men’s pea coat turns into pristinely double breasted tailored tux, and a short puffer parka into a faux-pony anorak.
Plunging necklines, sexiness and skin dominate the evening for women.
Jersey shorts with holes, white cotton tanks, trapper hats, vintage look shearlings and patched and worn denim dominate the men’s day looks. By night they get a glow up, to transparent chiffon shirts with studs details that open to the waist, low slung pants with a flared ankle in sparkling velvet or glossy printed python leather, a coordinated silver sequin bomber and pants and slinky lurex knits worn with clutches featuring back to back D2 gold hardware.
A men’s black bouclé jacket with shiny gold buttons and crystals, was by day a hybrid tattered denim bouclé and hoodie jacket hybrid worn with chino chaps.
Layered women’s looks of washed jersey and knits, and denim jeans are magicked into floor-length skirts, feather-trimmed mini dresses and a silk jersey gown that reveals wrapped, gathered and cut-out sections on the body.
Bags and shoes also play on concepts of raw and the refined. Worn suede duffels and Gothic Belt Bags in jacquard knits are contrasted with back to back D2 clutches for both men and women in satin and python printed leather. Sneakers, army and Sasquatch boots make way for slightly heeled men’s boots, and high heeled delicate ankle strap pumps for women—both styles elongating the leg and accentuating elegance. Jewelry created with shimmering colored stones set into long polished gold metal chains completes the transformation.
